How much Vitamin C can i take at once...?

also, how much echinachea can i take? i have some pills with both, and they have 500 mg of vitamin C, then i have just plain echinachea pills. im wanting to take like, 4 of the ones with vitamin C, and then 5 more of the ones with just echinachea.

i dont want to be sick tomarrow, so im hoping this will give my immune system a huge boost.

How much Vitamin C can i take at once...?
Whilst it is quite safe to take 3 gm of vitamin C a day (although most health experts recommend a lot less) it is generally recommended that the maximum in a single dose should not exceed 1 gm (1,000 mg). 3 times 1 gm a day is OK.

As regards echinacea, it is only suitable for short term use. If you use it long term it is likely to actually weaken your immune system.
Reply:yeah that's fine. mega dosing on c is ok. if you do it regularly you could get a kidney stone. but for a few days it can really help. try to drink water too.
Reply:Your body can only absorb so much Vitamin C in a single dosage. You will urinate out the excess and not get any benefit from it.

The New England Journal of Medicine had a study that said "...suggests taking 1000 milligrams of Echinacea three times a day for optimal effectiveness."
Reply:dont take any havent you heard vitamin c causes cancer
Reply:That's not how vitamins work. Take the recommended dosage. Less is more. Too much more is dangerous.
Reply:You can take a bath in the vitamin c if you want. It's NOT going to give your immune system a boost. Stay away from large doses of echinacea.
Reply:Hi Zing, I always take 1000 mg of vitamin C but i have been told 1500 mg won't hurt you. About Echinachea i take 1 caplets in the morning and 1 at bed time. That's all you need.
