How can I boost my self-esteem?

I have really bad self-esteem, I will admit it.I am constantly thinking I am not pretty enough. I think I am fat. What are some ways to help my self-esteem. ( like activities) and I dont want to go to a counselor b/c I cant stand them. Please help. people said that I have to start loving myself before I can expect people to love me (like as in boyfriends) I dont want to be single my whole life =/

I appreciate it

How can I boost my self-esteem?
Try getting out of your head - in other words don't think about yourself so much. Throw yourself into helping others and learn how that leads to being happy. Nothing generates self-esteem as much as sincere gratitude. Set achievable short and long term goals for yourself and accomplish them. Become like the people you want to love.
Reply:Make a list of all the things about yourself that are good and admirable. (Are you kind to other people and pets? Do you not litter? Do you remember song lyrics easily?) Anything positive can be on your list. First on your list could be, "I want to be happier." That wish for self-improvement is a wonderful trait.

List three things you want to change about yourself. The job is to figure out step by step how to change for the better the things on your list.

Let's say one of them is that you think you are not pretty enough. How could you change that?

Have you seen those tabloids at the check-out stands of movie stars without their make-up? Many of them are pretty ordinary people. They have learned how to use make-up to accent their good features and play down ones they don't like.

Save your money and make an appointment with a good make-up artist to learn how to use make-up like the stars. Make it clear to the salon that this is not a one time special occassion, but that you want to learn how to do the work yourself. If you are on a tight budget, tell them ahead of time that you may not be buying make-up they sell, but would like their recommendations for moderately priced make-up.

If possible, have a friend come along and record the event on a digital recorder so you can refer back to the pictures and artist's comments as the session goes along. Then practice what you have learned so that you are comfortable doing your make-up this new way.

If your doctor agrees you are heavier than your height and bone structure, there are all sorts of resources available to help you lose weight. The trick to remember is that diets may help you lose weight temporarily. But, if you want to lose weight, and keep it off, you have to decide to change the way you eat to a healthy style forever, and you have to exercise. There are no successful shortcuts.

Finally, the very best way to raise your self esteem is to see appreciation reflected in the eyes of someone else. Volunteer your time to someone or something that needs an extra pair of hands. Commit to something--visiting and running errands for an elderly relative or neighbor. Work in a shelter. Work in a community kitchen. Go to the web site of your local newspaper and type in "volunteer opportunities." There are literally dozens of groups in need right where you live. If you give your time and effort, you will be greatly appreciated. You will meet other committed people. No doubt you will make friends, and all these things will make you feel better about yourself and make you a more interesting person.
Reply:even if you are fat( i prefer the term cuddly myself). you can still have good self esteem. let's start with the way you carry yourself. stand up straight and tall. chest pulled out of yourstomach area. shoulders pulled back. your ears should be aligned with your shoulders at all times. walk looking ahead of you like you are royalty. next, take a look at your clothes. you can dress in style even you don't have the money to. as long as you don't mind wearing second hand clothes. the place to buy them, second hand stores, sales at malls, garage sales. if you buy smart you can buy only a few pieces of clothes and put them together to form several different outfits. make sure hair has a good cut to it. one that easy to take care of. that doesn't necesarily mean you have to cut it short. talk to the stylist that's cutting it see what see has to say about a good style for you. while waiting your turn look through the books they have ans see if you find something you like. tell yourself through the day that you are beautiful and a wonderful person. keep a smile on your face. it doesn't have to be a big grin just a little grin. it may feel weird at first but it feel noromal after awhile. good luck
Reply:You can try graphotherapy. Look at your writing... are the "t" bars low? Bring them up.
