Can I boost my Iron in a week?

I have to be tested in a week for an iron deficiency in pregnancy. I was tested in December and was somewhat anemic. I really want to have good iron levels, or I won't be able to give birth in the birth center where I want to. I'm eating blackstrap molasses, beans, eggs, vit. C and taking a pill. What else can I do, and is a week enough time?

Can I boost my Iron in a week?
i used a double dose of floradix, it's totally safe and pretty effective... my iron was down to 8.6 and i got it up to 13 in 6 weeks... it's liquid, herbal, and the taste...you'll get used to it.

are you vegetarian??? fi there is any way you can sacrifice that for a little meat, that's what i had to do also...

the floradix is vegetarian maybe even vegan actually... check it out. it's what my midwife reccomended.

if i were you i'd ask this question again on the mothering.com forums...

get the floradix asap.. make sure to increase the absorption by taking in on an empty stomach, double dose twice a day... and alfalfa too... alfalfa tablets are great. you take them inbetween meals with room temp water. and it helps get oxygen flow to the blood cells and therefore the placenta.

good luck!!! i really hope you get to have your birth center experience...

you should watch the birth video's on themidwife.net they are amazing. i met that midwife yesterday actually and she's moved in order to take the place of my midwife who went to chiapas mexico to train inigenous midwifes. amazing.
Reply:It usually take 4 weeks to show up in your bloodwork.

With that said, anything is possible.

Add spinach and brawnswagger (spelling) to your diet.

They are hugely rich in iron!
Reply:I was horrible animeic with my 1st baby. You should really talk to the dr about taking a pill called choromagem (sp) Also another good way to get iron is from eating liver..*shudders*

Another good way is to eat alot of green veggies. Right now I am taking a prenatial viatim called One Source complete. I got mine at wal-mart at the viatim section.

It has 28mg of Iron which is a % daily value for pregnant and lactaing woman of 156% and you take 2 per day.

Another thing if you want to keep your Iron lvls good is DO NOT DRINK TEA OF ANY KIND! There is something in tea that keeps your body from absorbing iron in your food.

So anyway if you stop taking the pills ur taking now and start taking a prenatial vitaim that has a good amount of iron in it you should be doing fine and eat lots of green veggies.

Best of luck
Reply:you can but have to try hard
Reply:I had low iron during my pregnancy, I was taking an iron supplement (pill) once a day, and eating Total cereal every day for breakfast. That seemed to help me.
Reply:Heme iron (iron in meat) is the most absorb-able iron. You can eat a lot of red meat or take a heme iron supplement. One warning: many supplements claiming to have heme iron use liver. This is a very low iron source (high for meat, low for supplement). Look for a supplement made from hemoglobin.
Reply:No, a week is not enough time. I tried this before i was pregnant, and just anemic. Hate getting yelled at by the doctor!!

Its unfortunate that you've had ALL this time, and you've only started worrying about it recently. If you had done the iron pill 3 times a day, and had a pretty consistant meal... that would have EASILY boosted your iron. But in a week.... not gonna happen.
Reply:are you on iron pills already? that is usually prescribed when the mother's iron is low well at least that is what was done for me...I'm not really understanding why you wouldn't be able to have your baby where you want due to your iron? if you are eating green leafy veggies then you should be okay..but you don't wanna over do it by eating all those iron filled foods and taking iron pills...try asking your doctor what you should or shouldn't be doing:)
