I am 26 weeks pregnant. I have had a nasty chesty thing - I want to boost my immune system - how?

I have aldready had a course of strong antibiotics which I hate having to take when pregnant. This helped but then came back almost straight away. I have a lot of catarrgh and coughing. Wheezing in my chest and spend most nights coughing which is not good with the way my bladder is at present (ladies with 3 pregnancies under their belt will know).

I am eating healthily, drinking plenty of water etc. Cant really get much rest as am living abroad with my husband on tour in Afghan in the British Army and 3 kids under 5.

Can I boost my immune system with a vitamin C and E supplement as surely this is better than more antibiotics.

Anyone have any ideas please as I would be most grateful. Am doing the honey lemon thing, paracetamol etc.....

Thanks

Clare

You could use apple cider vinegar. Mix a couple of tblspns with hot water, add some honey and a dash of ginger. I'll give you a link that will tell you some of the other benefits of using it.http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvi...

I'm going to go and make some for myself right now!
Reply:Speak to a doctor... he's studied medicine for at least 9 years and has a certificate to prove it. The randoms on yahoo dont.
Reply:Don't take suppliments while pregnant.

Make some vegetable soup or salad or have a smoothie.

Eat plenty of fruit and veg and you will feel better.
Reply:Drink Orange Juice ( freshly squeezed if poss)

I have a spoon of Honey ( daily if poss ) and don not give it up ever.
Reply:I suggest speaking with you midwife or Doctor. You should get expert advice.
Reply:You can boost your immune system with the two supplements however vitamin E is stored in fat so you can build up on it quickly. The vitamins D.E.A.K. all are fat soluble so don't overdue (get it?) it. Vitamin C is flushed through the body so no worries there. Again, everything in moderation. Vitamin A is actually helpful (although not scietifically verified) for immune boosting. Your prenatal vitamins should have enough so I would just add more Vit C.

Additional and probably more helpful is to exercise more. Exercise boost the immune system and is a great preventive and remedy for colds. In your case walking and swimming is best. Because of your pregnancy status most medications and especially ibuprofen are verboten (forbidden or at least should be avoided).

Finally for your cough. There is a nasty post viral or post influenza bronchitis that can last up to 3 weeks. Check with your health care practitioner to find out if Advair would be okay for you. It's an inhailed steroid and bronchodialator that decreases inflammation in the lungs (which causes a cough-inflammation-cough clycle). It works locally on the lungs and doesn't go into the system significantly. The safety rating is C which is "unknown" risk to fetus. I've prescribed in the past without problems but each prescriber has their own philosophy.
Reply:Rubbish !
