What is the best way to boost my iron after a c-section, without getting consitpated?

Does breastfeeding take my iron away like pregnancy did?

What is the best way to boost my iron after a c-section, without getting consitpated?
I had to take iron after my C-section. My doctor recommended eating spinach. It is very high in iron. Or else, take the iron supplements and then take a laxative. I don't think there is an iron pill that will not cause that problem. If there is let me know!
Reply:ask a pharmacist what brand you should take. more likely the outcome will still be the same - constipation. but you should eat foods rich in fiber to help that out. or maybe take laxatives(milk of megnesia) if its alright with your doctor.

you really want to get your iron up as soon as possible. i was told by the lc that once my milk starts to come in i would get very tired while breastfeeding. which was very true, i would doze off continuously. and being anemic can make you really tired as well. on top of it all you have a newborn that requires feeding every 2-4 hours. with all that lack of sleep, it can take an emotional toll on you.

Reply:Strawberries, beans %26amp; high iron food. I was afraid to take iron supplements because i was breast feeding. Best bet is to consult your doctor.
Reply:Bfeeding does not use up iron. Red meat high in iron, but other bad things as well. Switch to iron cookwear will actually raise your iron level.
Reply:You should continue taking prenata vitamins for at least six months after having your baby as for the contipation, add fiber to your diet life salads or wheaties cereal and drink lots of water which you want to do when your breastfeeding anyway. Since your breastfeeding you will be burning lots of calories so its important to keep your calorie count in the high range.
